The Church’s Authority in the Life of the Average Saint

The Church’s Authority in the Life of the Average Saint

While many people don’t like being under authority, the truth is that we live our lives under several different spheres of authority – we have rules in our family, in our place of work, in our church, and in our country that we are to abide by. While our lives as saints are lived out before God in every sphere, how we relate to each sphere and how they interact with each other can be confusing.
The dominant conversation in our situation today focuses on how the church’s authority relates to the government’s authority (you can tune into our last podcast if you’re interested in that topic), but there’s another overlooked and important issue – the issue of the local church’s authority in the life of the average saint.
Many seem to be confused as to what is the place of the church’s authority in the life of the average saint today. How do we make decisions in relation to the church’s authority in our lives? If we seek to be faithful to Christ we need to understand what kind of authority the church has been given, how to relate to it and how to participate in it.
