Many people go through life with little self-examination, or self- reflection…they simply react. They react to what comes up within their hearts or what comes into their lives. Self-reflection is difficult, it requires time and energy, and some of us are better wired to take action in life than to take stock in life, but if we are to live wisely in the world as followers of Christ we need to consider carefully how we’re living and why. Careless and unintentional living is unspiritual. In our passage today, the Apostle Paul exhorts his readers to live wisely. Since they had been made members of God’s family, made one new humanity in Christ, redeemed from sin and death, made heirs of God’s eternal kingdom, they were to live out that new life in Jesus wisely, daily.
