Recently, we’ve seen unprecedented actions taken by authorities in arresting and imprisoning pastors in our province. James Coates, Tim Stephens, and Artur Pawlowski were all thrown in jail for opening their churches and not complying with Alberta Health restrictions. Debates have erupted questioning the faithfulness of these men, questioning if this is in line with Christ and his gospel. An article in the Calgary Herald went so far as to charge these men with blasphemy – claiming that their illegal behavior damages the church far more than any health restrictions ever could.
That’s a serious accusation.
So, have these pastor’s been jailed for their faithfulness to Jesus, or are they sinning? Have they been jailed for being threats to the public good, or have they been jailed for obeying Christ above all?
