Navigating Rights Violations As Christians

Unless you’ve been in a coma over the last 6 weeks, you’ve noticed that our civil rights have been sidelined. Many people are confused and concerned as fines, and even imprisonment, now threaten citizens who violate social distancing measures.
From a family getting fined for rollerblading in an empty park, to a church being fined for having a drive in service, to banning of singing in even small gatherings, there are events taking place in Canada that seem to parallel living in a police state, rather than in a democratic and free nation.
On top of that the Alberta government recently pass Bill 10, giving it sweeping powers to create laws without legislative assembly. This is concerning for many. While it is understandable and legal for the government to limit freedoms in times of national crisis, the question for us citizens of heaven is how do we respond when our rights as citizens of Canada are violated? What should be our aim and focus while our freedoms are being limited?
